Campout Corner
The first Pack 63 sponsored overnight campout in recent history occurred October 5 – 6, 2007 at the Blackwell Forest Preserve Youth Camp under perfect fall weather conditions. A big thank you to Cubmaster Poke for organizing this great event. Nine Scouts and their parents arrived Friday night to set up their tents. This was followed by a Pack meeting campfire. About a dozen other Scouts and their families attended the campfire as well. The campfire consisted of snacks, marshmallow roasting, Leader skits, general silliness, songs and a story from Lord Baden Powell. The highlight of the night was when each Den led a song or skit. Saturday morning started with a flag ceremony followed by a pancake and sausage breakfast. Thanks Cubmaster Poke for not burning my pancakes too bad! After breaking camp the group took a short course on compass usage. We now officially know our rights from our lefts. Compasses were put away and everyone hiked to the activity field for a rousing round of water bottle rocket launchings and Frisbee. We then had a closing flag ceremony followed by taking down the remaining tents and packing up the cars around noon. The campout was such a good time, moving forward we are planning to have at least one spring and one fall campout each year. Be on the lookout for details of our spring 2008 campout.
